Nishimura and New Gore!

A new film with effects by FantasticFest favorite Yoshihiro Nishimura? We’re down.

So I’m buzzing around on Facebook real quick a few minutes ago and I bumped into a Fantastic Fest post with a link to Twitchfilm.net and a trailer for something called Gothic and Lolita Psycho.  Now, I keep an eye on Japanese cinema pretty good and I do visit the Twitch site but this entirely escaped my attention so I clicked on the link and saw the name Yoshihiro Nishimura.  That was all the motivation I needed to bring this to the attention of Cybermonkeys everywhere.

Aside from being one heck of a nice guy with a very limited command of English, he is also the visual effects guy behind RoboGeisha (2009), Machine Girl (2008) and Hard Revenge Millie (2009) among others, as well as the directing genius that brought the world Tokyo Gore Police (2008) and Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl (2009) and the man who is redefining Japanese Gore Cinema.  His films are totally mind-bending, over-the-top violence and blood spurting madness, utilizing tons of fake blood and making the most of every low budget and two week shooting schedule he is provided to create some of the most entertaining films of the past few years.  Totally a Fantastic Fest favorite, this movie seems no exception to the body of Nishimura’s work.  The trailer speaks for itself, revenge, crazy umbrella gadgets, blood spurting everywhere, hot girls running about…all the earmarks of another Nishimura masterpiece and very highly anticipated by yours truly.

Logic would dictate that because it ran on the Fantastic Fest update, this could be a strong contender for this year’s outing and Alamo Drafthouse head-honcho (and another really nice guy) Tim League let it slip at the recent Undisputed III/Mandrill evening with Marko Zaror that a couple of new Donnie Yen films are most likely going to be shown, adding extra incentive to an already incredible festival.  Watch the trailer below and be prepared to order your tickets.
