More on Call of Duty: Black Ops Escalation

the course takes place in a large, frozen area complete with lighthouse and cargo ship… and hundreds of the undead. This is supposed to be the biggest, most ambitious zombie map they’ve made…

Next Tuesday, May 3rd, the new Call of Duty: Black Ops map pack Escalation will be releasing on the Xbox 360 for 1200 Microsoft Points (equivalent to $15) and will include 4 new multiplayer maps for you to get your killing fix on.  More new footage of Hotel, Convoy, Stockpile and Zoo have been released and the developers have given bits of strategy and glimpses of gameplay to get your mouth watering.  However, that’s not what I’m here to talk about today.  Sure, I’m excited as the next guy about blowing people up in an abandoned zoo and shooting guys from across the map from a high hotel window or locking down the stockpile and controlling that area but you do that on every new level.  What’s got me excited is a little video I watched about four times yesterday on the Xbox dashboard giving a preview of the new zombie level titled Call of the Dead.

Now, Treyarch doesn’t give a ton of stuff away because they wisely want you to explore the new content and discover stuff on your own but they did give a little information on the new zombie level.  Apparently, the course takes place in a large, frozen area complete with lighthouse and cargo ship… and hundreds of the undead.  This is supposed to be the biggest, most ambitious zombie map they’ve made which should be a real treat because Ascention from the last map pack was huge with a ton of defensive options and things to do.  So already the footage of dudes running around and blowing zombies away is pretty cool stuff, especially with the variety of areas and different feel to this level.  Zip lines and launching platforms abound and it seems a real departure from the previous zombie maps.  This still isn’t review-worthy so there must have been something in that preview Tron’s not mentioning yet.  It’s true.  What has me excited is the “story” is inspired by zombie guru George Romero, who also appears in the game!  It’s true, both as himself and zombie-George!  If that wasn’t enough, instead of playing as random guy #1 against the zombie threat, Treyarch went out and secured voices and likenesses of Michael Rooker, Danny Trejo, Robert Englund and Sarah Michelle Gellar!  That’s right: Buffy, Machete, Freddy Kruger and Grant Grant all team up to fight the undead and George Romero!  Like the zombie level didn’t look bad-ass enough, the addition of these characters has ramped my excitement through the roof.  Pretty much everyone who has Black Ops will be getting this map pack but so many people eschew the zombie level because you don’t rank up (which is a shame because they’re so much fun).  Call of the Dead looks to be the new content that may turn people’s opinions around and make the new map pack more than worth the bucks.  Plus, I love the zombies levels so much it won’t be a bad thing to have more players to jam on this sucker with.  you’ve heard it a million times but do yourself a favor and grab the Call of Duty: Black Ops Escalation Map Pack on May 3rd.  Not only will you get multi-player bad-assery but what seems to be the coolest zombie map to date.  I’ll see you online.

The Xbox preview is not online but I did dig out the official trailer for your enjoyment.
