Greg Nicotero Short Film at Fantastic Fest 2010

Greg Nicotero, World-Renowned makeup and effects artist, is making his directorial debut at this year’s Fantastic Fest.

It has just come to my attention that Greg Nicotero, World-Renowned makeup and effects artist, is making his directorial debut at this year’s Fantastic Fest with a short film entitled United Monster Talent Agency.  Mr. Nicotero, for those who don’t know, is the effects wizard behind K.N.B. EFX and has worked on many, many influential genre films you all know and love without maybe knowing he was behind a lot of what you love about those films.  I have said for years if a head explodes in a Hollywood film and it’s awesome, it’s either the work of Tom Savini (whom Mr. Nicotero worked with) or Greg Nicotero.  Day of the Dead and Invasion U.S.A. (both 1985), From Beyond (1986), Evil Dead II (1987), Army of Darkness (1992), Jason Goes to Hell (1993),  Lord of Illusions (1995), Bubba Ho-Tep (2002), Texas Chainsaw (2003 and 2006), Casino Royal (2006), Transformers (2007) and many, many, many more to list, this guy has done so much amazing stuff that a film, even a short one, by Mr. Nicotero is highly anticipated indeed.  I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Nicotero a few years ago and attended a Fantastic Fest panel where he played many of his classic effects shots and told a batch of great stories surrounding the filming, even going so far as to tease Grindhouse (2007) and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.  He is a wonderful speaker, a genuinely nice man and a total class act.  The reason I bring that up is Mr. Nicotero will also be there this year again In Person!

Now, since the Fest is a few weeks away, scant information is available but the Fantastic Fest site had this blurb: “You’re likely already familiar with the classic monster films of Hollywood’s golden age. Now, learn how tough it was to get those monsters to behave on camera!”  That has me sold – the Classic Universal Monsters being done by Greg Nicotero?  GOLD!  As always, badges are still available and more information is being released almost daily at www.fantastifest.com so there is no excuse to miss this event!  Greg Nicotero and his new short film at the 2010 Fantastic Fest!  Miss it at your peril.
