Clone Wars Adventures, free to play MMO from SOE.
Another Star Wars MMO? Don’t get excited, it’s a “prequels” game…
Abraxas sez:
I’ve said it tangentially many times, but I’ll come right out and say it straight up; the Star Wars prequels suck. There’s a lot of reasons why, and I won’t get into them here. But already I can feel some of you saying, ‘ Bu..bu…but, Abraxas, the Prequels are when…”
And you’re why they’re making a free-to-play MMO set in the Clone Wars world. This fall Sony Online Entertainment will release the free, kid friendly PC game Clone Wars Adventures. It will be a series of mini-games (think Farmville on ‘roids) wrapped inside a social network-esque open area.
To translate that into normal speak: You’ll have an customizable avatar that you can run around with, talk with all the people you see everyday anyway, and go to a room to play a game by yourself or with/against some one. Also, it won’t really be free. There won’t be a monthly charge, but if you want to do any of the cool stuff you’ll have to pay.
SOE has a history of grinding every good MMO idea into grist but I suspect the designers have the same respect for the Prequels that I do as one of the mini-games you can play is to fling a Gungan (Jar-Jar) into explosives.
