Chili Cold Blood

Damn dirty motherfuckin’ Rock and Roll!

Chili Cold Blood is the band your momma doesn’t want you to hear. Raw, dirty, real rock and roll that makes you want to spend every evening at a roadhouse, drinking whiskey and talking to nasty girls. Combining the best of the blues, rock, and country (and a little bit of a disco beat on the skins), Chili Cold Blood brings it, rubs it in your face, and makes you beg for more.

The guys in the band all started their careers as sidemen in various projects, giving them an extensive knowledge in many styles, and an ability to throw down a dirty groove at a moments notice. Ethan Shaw plays the pedal steel, but this ain’t your father’s twangy country steel guitar – it’s distorted, raw, and vicious. Doug Strahan is a finger-pickin’ madman with a wicked Wah-Wah pedal. And Matt Puryear pounds out a backbeat that holds it all together. Vocal duties are traded between Shaw and Strahan, the latter warping his vocals through a treated mic. The band has released several albums, with titles such as “Jesus Comin’ . . . I’m the Fuck You Up Man”, “Rock N Roll Motherfucker”, and the newest one “Lips”.

Chili Cold Blood is more than just a band, though. These guys play because they love it, they play because they believe in the community of rock and roll, helping other bands get their tunes out to the people. They’ve started their own label, BloodChili Records, to further that goal. Now THAT’S Cybermonkey!

The records are awesome, but to truly appreciate Chili Cold Blood, you need to see them play live. The guys tear the roof off the joint when they play, and you can’t help but feel the dirty boogie all through you when they jam. Good luck with that, though, as they don’t tour much. But hell, you needed an excuse to go to Texas anyway, right? Until then, you can head over to their MySpace page and check out a few tracks, then go on over to Waterloo Records and buy a CD.
