The Emperor’s New Groove (2000)

I’m very happy that my wife loves this movie. It’s flawed, but it’s got a wonderful heart and a weird sense of humor.

#87, April 9, 2011

This is one of lady lascivious’ favorite movies, and I’d never seen it before. She’s been dieing to show it to me, and tonight we made it happen.

I missed seeing this one when it came out because… I have no good excuse. Not seeing Disney films at the time, I guess. I’ve also never seen Mulan, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Hercules, or Pocahantas. Actually, I’ve skipped almost everything since The Lion King. I saw Bolt. That’s kinda sad. Maybe I should do a Disney catch-up-a-thon?

I’ve seen all the Pixar films. They tend to be have better stories than the Disney films. Someone at Pixar gets it.

The Emperor’s New Groove felt a little forced, like they wanted to make a movie with X, Y, and Z in it so they built a story around that. “Hey, what if this time we do a movie in South America? We could have a llama in it!” That said, it was fun. The voice talents were well chosen for their roles; especially David Spade, who was born to play a whiny, spoiled, self-absorbed boy-king. It also helps that I’m a sucker for anything with Patrick Warburton. I’d also like to commend Disney for making an animated movie that wasn’t a musical. Or a princess movie. Or a musical princess movie. I don’t need any more musical princess movies, thank you. It’s almost as if Disney makes all their animated movies for little girls.

I’m very happy that my wife loves this movie. It’s flawed, but it’s got a wonderful heart and a weird sense of humor. Like me.
