Oh Lord!
Magnum is diggin on Foxy Shazam. Oh Lord, indeed.
Magnificent Bastard sez:
I love this song, I love this video, I think I love this band.
When Matt sent me a text message asking if I’d ever heard of Foxy Shazam, not only had I never heard of them, but it didn’t sound like anything I wanted to check out. Foxy Shazam? What the hell is a Foxy Shazam?
The second time he did it, I paused. Matt rarely tells me about anything twice. If he was this excited, I decided I should give it a look-see. I looked. I saw. I looked again. Was I mistaken, or was this awesomeness sent down from the heavens?
Foxy Shazam, at least in this video, was coming across as some sort of bizarre almagamation of The Darkness and Faith No More singing songs written by Jim Steinman. I love all three of those things.
I have done some deeper digging, and I’m pleased with what I found. But this, this song, this video… after numerous viewings (and I mean numerous… Double Digits… Dozens… I’m thinking scores… Two score, maybe more…) I’m still diggin on it.
So sit back, relax, and enjoy the awesomeness that is Oh Lord, brought to you by Foxy Shazam.
What about the name? According to the lead singer, Eric Sean Nally, “foxy shazam” was a slang term at his high school for cool shoes. “If you had cool shoes, kids would say those are foxy shazam“. That’s good enough for me.
One final thought… doesn’t the keyboard player look like Javi?
Like if Javi and the guy from System of a Down had a common brother.
well, i just wish i could grow that beard and not get itchy and annoyed by such facial hair… but well, he looks a little like me, never the other way
